Mekong Delta to Become a Friendly Destination Mekong Delta to Become a Friendly Destination
“Mekong Delta can be seen as one of the most attractive tourist destinations in Asia with beautiful natural landscapes, but it may soon lose this advantage due to rapid infrastructure development. And it take years to reinstate those precious values,” said Prof. Ernst Sagemueller, general director of the Europe-Indochina Institute for Tourism, at a recent conference entitled “Potential and Development Opportunity in Mekong Delta” in the city of Can Tho.

Buffalo bonesBuffalo bones
In parts of Ha Tay and Ha Nam provinces it is said people have been making combs from buffalo horns for centuries. Judging by their two main maxims, traditionally buffalo-horn craftsmen were pretty unforthcoming to outsiders who were curious about the craft.

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism has approved Dak Lak ’s proposal to host the national tourism year 2009. Dak Lak province has held large festivals such as the Central Highlands Festival, Gong Festival and Buon Me Thuot Coffee Festival in recent years.

Moreover, Dak Lak has potential in developing eco-tourism and culture tourism and has made significant progress in developing tourism infrastructure. This has created favorable conditions for the province to host the national tourism year 2009.

Organizing of the national tourism year is expected to contribute to the provincial socio-economic development and poverty reduction for ethnic minority groups.

Dak Lak, located in Vietnam's Central Highlands, is a mountain province with rich tourism potential. Its tourists destinations include waterfalls such as Dray Sap, Gia Long, Trinh Nu, Krong Kmar, Bay Nhanh, Thuy Tien, Ba Tang and large 200-600 hectare lagoons such as Lak, Ea Kao, Ea Đờn and Tây Lakes, suitable for sailing, surfing, fishing, and other entertainment activities.

Coming to Dak Lak, travelers can visit virgin forests with diverse ecological systems and species in Yok Đôn National Park, Nam Ka Special Forest and Nam Nung and Ta Dung Conservation Zones.
