Mekong Delta to Become a Friendly Destination Mekong Delta to Become a Friendly Destination
“Mekong Delta can be seen as one of the most attractive tourist destinations in Asia with beautiful natural landscapes, but it may soon lose this advantage due to rapid infrastructure development. And it take years to reinstate those precious values,” said Prof. Ernst Sagemueller, general director of the Europe-Indochina Institute for Tourism, at a recent conference entitled “Potential and Development Opportunity in Mekong Delta” in the city of Can Tho.

The tourism sector of central Thua Thien-Hue province is gearing up for the upcoming Hue Festival, which is supposed to fall in June.

One five-star hotel and four four-star hotels are put on place, helping increase the number of rooms available for guests to over 4,500, a rise of 28.4 percent over last year.

The international Phu Bai airport will be upgraded along with infrastructural facilities in the imperial city of Hue .

Many tours to and from Hue have been added, including the “Heritage road” on the East-West Corridor, the Bac Hai-Quang Ninh-Chan May and the Macau-Hai Phong-Hue trips.

In the first two months, more than 196,000 tourists, including 124,400 foreigners, visited Hue despite bad weather, representing increases of 23.8 and 43 percent over the same period last year.

Hotel occupancy reached 70 percent and the provincial tourist sector yielded 95 billion VND in revenues.
