Mekong Delta to Become a Friendly Destination Mekong Delta to Become a Friendly Destination
“Mekong Delta can be seen as one of the most attractive tourist destinations in Asia with beautiful natural landscapes, but it may soon lose this advantage due to rapid infrastructure development. And it take years to reinstate those precious values,” said Prof. Ernst Sagemueller, general director of the Europe-Indochina Institute for Tourism, at a recent conference entitled “Potential and Development Opportunity in Mekong Delta” in the city of Can Tho.

In parts of Ha Tay and Ha Nam provinces it is said people have been making combs from buffalo horns for centuries. Judging by their two main maxims, traditionally buffalo-horn craftsmen were pretty unforthcoming to outsiders who were curious about the craft.

Vietnam Airlines increases domestic fares

28 February 2008

Vietnam Airlines says it will increase its domestic fares from March 1, the day that Pacific Airlines, also of Vietnam, will raise its fares.

Vietnam Airlines spokesman Trinh Ngoc Thanh says the new prices would help the national flag carrier diversify its local fares, counterbalance high input costs over the past four years and operate more flights in the country.

The Ministry of Transport had earlier approved the two carriers’ proposals of fare rises.

Vietnam Airlines’ new one-way fares include VND1.7 million for Ha Noi-Ho Chi Minh City and HCMC-Hai Phong routes; VND1.65 million for the Ha Noi-Buon Ma Thuot, Da Lat and Nha Trang routes; and VND1.5 million on HCMC-Vinh.

The one-way fares for the routes of Ha Noi-Da Nang, Ha Noi-Hue, HCMC-Da Nang and HCMC-Chu Lai are VND1.1 million; and those to fly between HCMC and Rach Gia, and Buon Ma Thuot are VND600,000.

Other domestic flights from Ha Noi, HCMC and Da Nang are all priced at VND800,000 for a one-way ticket.
