Mekong Delta to Become a Friendly Destination Mekong Delta to Become a Friendly Destination
“Mekong Delta can be seen as one of the most attractive tourist destinations in Asia with beautiful natural landscapes, but it may soon lose this advantage due to rapid infrastructure development. And it take years to reinstate those precious values,” said Prof. Ernst Sagemueller, general director of the Europe-Indochina Institute for Tourism, at a recent conference entitled “Potential and Development Opportunity in Mekong Delta” in the city of Can Tho.

Buffalo bonesBuffalo bones
In parts of Ha Tay and Ha Nam provinces it is said people have been making combs from buffalo horns for centuries. Judging by their two main maxims, traditionally buffalo-horn craftsmen were pretty unforthcoming to outsiders who were curious about the craft.

Tourists get informed in Can Tho by machine

26 December 2007

The first machine offering free tourism information has been launched in the southern city of Can Tho under the name “Citinfo” to help Can Tho become a more attractive tourist destination.

Citinfo, developed by the Mekong Advertising and Travel Information Company Limited (METINFO), is a computer equipped with an induction screen and multimedia software to help tourists gain easy access to tourism information and carry out transactions.

By simply pressing on the induction screen, tourists can find detailed information on local restaurants, hotels, shopping centers, hospitals, tourism festivals and related services.

In future, Citinfo will have more functions, including printing, sound, remote updating and data transfers via USB interface.

Citinfo, which cost VND60-70 million (some US$4,061) per unit has also been installed in Ha Noi, Ho Chi Minh City and the city of Da Lat.

The introduction of Citinfo is one of Can Tho city’s strategies to prepare for the 2008 National Tourism Year, themed “The Mekong Delta’s Waterways and Countryside”.
