Vietnam Airlines and Pacific Airlines on Tuesday announced more domestic flights to meet the surging demand for air travel during the Lunar New Year holidays or Tet in the country.
Vietnam Airlines plans 318 more flights between Hanoi and HCMC, and HCMC and Danang from January 24 to February 21 next year, according to Nguyen Tan Chan, deputy head of Vietnam Airlines' advertising department.
Chan told the Daily that the carrier would add 246 flights between Hanoi and HCMC, and 72 flights to the HCMC-Danang schedule.
Chan clarified the national flag air carrier would provide a daily number of 3,600-5,900 seats for the flights from Hanoi to HCMC, and 1,200-1,700 seats for the flights from HCMC to Danang. These numbers do not include the seats for the return flights.
Meanwhile Pacific Airlines expects to increase seating capacity by 70% between now and Tet when Vietnam's first low-cost carrier receives more planes, launches new domestic services and adds flights.
Pacific's deputy director of sales and marketing Ha Nang Viet told the Daily that the carrier would launch daily HCMC-Haiphong service this Friday and double the frequency to Hue.
Pacific will add one flight to the HCMC-Hanoi run, months after it increased the number to nine from seven. The carrier also plans one more flight for the HCMC-Danang route.
