Mekong Delta to Become a Friendly Destination Mekong Delta to Become a Friendly Destination
“Mekong Delta can be seen as one of the most attractive tourist destinations in Asia with beautiful natural landscapes, but it may soon lose this advantage due to rapid infrastructure development. And it take years to reinstate those precious values,” said Prof. Ernst Sagemueller, general director of the Europe-Indochina Institute for Tourism, at a recent conference entitled “Potential and Development Opportunity in Mekong Delta” in the city of Can Tho.

Buffalo bonesBuffalo bones
In parts of Ha Tay and Ha Nam provinces it is said people have been making combs from buffalo horns for centuries. Judging by their two main maxims, traditionally buffalo-horn craftsmen were pretty unforthcoming to outsiders who were curious about the craft.

21 December 2007

NewOpenWorld, the organizer of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World, announced on its website that Vietnam’s Ha Long Bay is currently ranked 9th of nearly 200 nominated landscapes worldwide.

Let’s vote for Ha Long Bay!

According to Liberated Saigon Newspaper, of the 200 nominated sites, Vietnam has two other locations ranked on the NewOpenWorld website, Phong Nha – Ke Bang (16th) and Fansipan (19th).

NewOpenWorld is asking all host countries of nominated sites to set up a council to campaign for the selection.

Polls will officially close December 31, 2008.

After the selections are finalized, NewOpenWorld will support host countries of the seven selected wonders to advertise and preserve the sites.

Ha Long Bay was recognized as a world natural heritage site for landscape value in 1994 and geological value in 2000 by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).
