Mekong Delta to Become a Friendly Destination Mekong Delta to Become a Friendly Destination
“Mekong Delta can be seen as one of the most attractive tourist destinations in Asia with beautiful natural landscapes, but it may soon lose this advantage due to rapid infrastructure development. And it take years to reinstate those precious values,” said Prof. Ernst Sagemueller, general director of the Europe-Indochina Institute for Tourism, at a recent conference entitled “Potential and Development Opportunity in Mekong Delta” in the city of Can Tho.

Buffalo bonesBuffalo bones
In parts of Ha Tay and Ha Nam provinces it is said people have been making combs from buffalo horns for centuries. Judging by their two main maxims, traditionally buffalo-horn craftsmen were pretty unforthcoming to outsiders who were curious about the craft.

Travel tips for Christmas

20 November 2007

The festive season is one of the busiest, and most stressful, times of the year to travel by plane so make sure you are prepared. What with people rushing to get back home, families heading to relatives and the threat of bad weather hanging over your trip, it is worth planning ahead.

Remember the check-in queues are likely to be much busier than normal and many airlines recommend you turn up at least two hours before departure.

If you are carrying presents and parcels be aware of baggage size restrictions as extra fees could soon wipe any festive cheer off your face and no toy guns please.

You could be asked to open any parcels so be prepared for this with a list of what is in them and an easy way to open and close the package.

Be ready for security control by getting any keys, coins and mobile phones out ready to place in the inspection tray and go straight through, walk clear of the area unless you have to wait for family members who need your help.

Many airlines have strict timing schedules so they will close boarding gates on time, if you think you may be late for your flight call the airline as soon as possible.

With bags and suitcases of all shapes and sizes rolling around the carousel makes yours stand out with a piece of distinctive card attached to it, or the old favourite a belt fastened around the case.

At this time of year your travel plans can be hit by poor weather and you could be forced to stay overnight in the airport.

Make sure you have essential medicines and other items close at hand. If you have left your car in the car park pop a few blankets in the boot and maybe a pillow, so if your plane is delayed you can nip out and get them.

If you think ahead, give yourself plenty of time at the airport and look to take the stress out of Christmas travel, you should arrive at your destination full of festive spirit.
