Vietnam has become the second most popular destinations in the Greater Mekong sub-region for Thai visitors, behind Laos , said the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT).
TAT’s figure show that Thai tourist arrivals to Vietnam in the first nine months this year amounted to nearly 121,000, a year-on-year increase of 137 percent.
The number of Vietnamese travelling to Thailand dropped by 6 percent in the first seven months of the year. Tourism officials said this was due to unrest in Thailand over the past year. However, TAT hopes that with 67 direct weekly flights between the two countries, Thailand can reach its target of 250,000 Vietnamese visitors in 2007.
